YJ springs: I installed a set of stock spring of a Jeep YJ to soften the ride, and get max amount of flex, and still have great handling. I had Old man emu 2" lift before that are known to have a nice ride. But the Yjs have a better ride, it is smoother in bumps and stiffer in turns with very little bodyroll. I have stayed SPUA(spring under axle) because it is my daily driver. And to keep it legal(ish) Engine: I have had several different engines in it, but they all have died a violent death. After four stock engines I installed a 1600 8v from a vitara. This didn`t last long since it had a crack in the block so it leaked coolant into the oil. After it threw a rod the zuk sat for a while, installed a stock engine again as a temporarely solution. I was going insane when I couldnt take a drive in my zuk. Then i got hold of a 1600 16v engine. This block has stronger internals than the other engines I have had. So I mated it with a stock 1300 head, this makes it a reliable engine, removing the weak links(8v block and 16v top). Along with Swift fuelinjection, and header with 2" exhaust makes it a great engine, with a alot of power and torque. ![]() Gearing: The 31" gets heavy with the stock gears. So I got a 4.16:1 transfercase to get the gearing close to stock. In highrange the 4.16:1 gears are 12% lower than stock, and 84% lower in lowrange. These gears was welded and therefore failed after about 50 000 km. Then i got a set of 6.4:1 from Trail Tough. These are non-welded and has an 181% reduction in lowrange and 17% reduction in highrange. ![]() Powersteering: The 31" where hard to turn with stock steering and a locker in front. So I installed a steeringbox from a Vitara along with the pump. Body: The body is from an 1984 Sj410 and they have different mounts for the frame. But they where rusted away anyway. Made new mounts, removed alot of rusted metal and welded in new. While I first was doing it I made the wheelwells larger, so the 31" tires would fit without rubbing. ![]() |
